Finance Director – Chippenham

We’re looking for an experienced and commercially minded full time Finance Director to join our leadership team and continue to shape the financial future of the firm.

About you

You’ll bring significant senior finance experience from within a UK law firm, with a strong understanding of the SRA Accounts Rules, client money handling and legal accounting systems.

As well as being commercially minded, analytical and confident working at board level, you’ll be an excellent communicator with strong leadership skills.

The role

This is a full time role, Monday – Friday 8:30am to 5.00pm and is based in our Chippenham office with onsite parking.

You’ll lead the firm’s financial strategy and overall financial management, working closely with the Board to support growth, performance and long term planning.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the firm’s financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
  • Prepare and present management accounts, financial reports and performance information to the Board
  • Ensure compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules, statutory requirements and financial best practice.
  • Oversee cash flow, payroll, VAT, year end accounts and relationships with auditors, accountants and HMRC.
  • Monitor profitability, billing, work in progress, debt recovery and overall financial performance, providing recommendations to improve efficiency and profitability.
  • Work in partnership with the COFA and Board to maintain effective financial governance and manage risk.
  • Lead and support the finance team, promoting high standards of accuracy, professionalism and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain oversight of the firm’s financial and legal accounting systems, identifying opportunities to improve processes and reporting.
  • Work closely with the finance team, including overseeing legal cashiering where required.

The department

You’ll report to Rachel Saunders (our Equity Partner and COFA) and lead our welcoming, friendly and down to earth finance team. They take genuine pride in keeping the financial side of the firm running smoothly.
