We are delighted to announce that here at Forrester Sylvester Mackett Solicitors we will be supporting the Brighter Futures Radiotherapy Appeal as our Charity of the Year for 2017.
Brighter Futures is the charity for Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which includes Great Western Hospital in Swindon and the 69 community sites in and around Wiltshire. They aim to fund an extra special level of care in order to make a real difference to patients, their families and the staff who treat them, above what the NHS is able to provide. They do this by improving the hospital environment, funding ground breaking research, supporting the development and training of hospital staff and providing state-of-the-art equipment.
In May 2015 the charity embarked upon a £2.9million appeal in order to bring cancer care closer to those living in Wiltshire. At the moment people from Swindon and the surrounding area have to travel to Oxford, Bath or Cheltenham for treatment and scans.
The money raised will equip a new Radiotherapy Centre, to be built in Swindon on the site of Great Western Hospital, enabling cancer patients from Swindon and Wiltshire to receive radiotherapy locally.
Chloe Thomas, Community and Events Fundraiser at Brighter Futures commented:
‘‘We are absolutely delighted that FSM have chosen us as their Charity of the Year for 2017. Our Radiotherapy Appeal is so important for Swindon and the surrounding area. For many years, local people have campaigned for radiotherapy to be provided locally in Swindon. By working in partnership with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, this can now be a reality at the Great Western Hospital. The new radiotherapy unit will service over 300,000 locally and allow cancer patients to have more time at home with their loved ones. Oxford University Hospitals will invest in building the centre and provide the services at the new unit. Brighter Futures need to raise £2.9 million to equip the building so the support of everyone at FSM is very welcome indeed.’’
